My life began on October 10, 2010 in living arrangements that were less than ideal, but when I was about 8 weeks old everything changed for the better when my mom, my brothers & sisters, and I were rescued by a very special animal control officer. With some special help from Mariah’s Promise, my brother and I made our way to Colorado, where a very nice lady agreed to foster us. My handsome brother was adopted within a few days, but I remained with the lady and her family. One day I overheard the lady tell someone that she was a failure. No wait, she was a foster failure. Yeah, that’s it, a foster failure! I also heard her say that I was an angel sent to help her heal.
You see in 2009 she lost her very best friend Cain to cancer. She was heartbroken and made a promise to do all that she could to help find a cure for canine cancer. She founded Wishcuit (rhymes with biscuit!) to raise funds and spread awareness about canine cancer, and also to help non profits that rescue dogs in need. She travels around the country and sells these really cute stick figure products that she created, and donates the proceeds to canine health and welfare. She misses Cain a lot, and says that honoring Cain’s life is what keeps her going. She’s really passionate about her cause, and says that we can find a cure for cancer if we all work together, and I believe her!
When I was about 8 months old, I started tagging along with her to different events, and we’ve met some really great people. I have the best time, and I’m told that not only am I a great advocate for canine cancer awareness, but I’m also helping spread positive awareness about pit bulls. Just by being myself! It’s the craziest thing, and the easiest job in the whole world because I love everybody, and everybody loves me! I have these great party collars and being that I’m a very intelligent dog, I’ve figured out that every time I wear one it’s my cue that I’ll be tagging along with her. I can hardly contain myself…my whole body wiggles, and my magnetic personality kicks into high gear! I even have my own Facebook page now called Stick It To Canine Cancer, which is the companion page to Wishcuit’s Facebook page, and another place where people can go to get information on canine cancer, plus share their thoughts and experiences.
The only downside to my job is occasionally I’m not allowed to go with her just because some cities don’t like the type of dog that I am, and they have banned me from visiting. I think that’s the craziest thing too! Unfortunately I have to stay behind on those days, no matter how much I beg. She says that someday that will change, and together we’ll continue to fight for the rights of all dogs, and the people they share their lives with, and again I believe her!
So that’s a day in my life, and I’ll keep you updated from time to time on my where abouts with Wishcuit, the awesome people that we meet, and how much money we’ve raised to help find a cure for canine cancer. I almost forgot, on the days that I’m not working, I like to spend my free time hiking, chewing on bones, jumping on the bed and playing with my good friends Sadie, Bear and Pirate (especially Pirate!) Oh, and I love bananas!
If we miss you at one of our events, or you can’t find the stickers in a store nearby, you can still support the cause by visiting Love Adds Up or Love Grows. And don’t forget to follow me as I Stick It To Canine Cancer because just like my mom says, “We’re going to find a cure for canine cancer together!” And I believe her!!
