The fourth annual National Pit Bull Awareness Day takes place on Saturday, October 23, 2010. This year, events across the nation will aim to dispel myths about the pit bull terrier, and advocates will join together to educate people in their communities to change the public’s perception of a dog that has been horribly misrepresented and misunderstood.
Did you know that “pit bull” is not a breed? It is actually a generic term often used to describe the characteristics of three breeds of dogs; the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Dogs that are often labeled as “pit bulls” may include, Boxers, American Bulldogs, Presa Canario, and the Cane Corso, just to name a few. Most people are unable to recognize the differences between these breeds, among others, and often times make judgments which are based simply on the way a dog looks. How well do you know these breeds? Here’s a quick test!
Pit bull terriers are exceptional dogs, often used as therapy dogs, in search & rescue operations, and as K-9 police dogs. But most importantly to me, and I speak from experience, pit bull terriers make great loving and loyal companions!
The Love Adds Up™ campaign will be celebrating National Pit Bull Awareness Day and will begin by hosting a fund raiser for Colorado Pit Bull Rescue, which rescues pit bulls in Colorado from shelters where they don’t have a chance to be adopted due to Breed Specific Legislation. All you have to do is visit our site and select Colorado Pit Bull Rescue from the drop down menu and Wishcuit™ will donate 50% of the proceeds from the Love Adds Up™ campaign to Colorado Pit Bull Rescue. Pretty easy stuff and you get an awesome sticker or magnet to boot!
