The Biggest Lesson Learned

“…he will be your friend for always and always and always.” -Rudyard Kipling

A Handsome Guy

Some people write books and informational manuals, while others write all you need to know about canine cancer. I wrote a blog to help me through Cain’s cancer. The experience has been a huge lesson for me. It has brought a renewed awareness of love and friendship, companionship and loyalty; and everything in between. It has not been an easy journey, but one that I tried to pepper with positive acceptance, though that wasn’t always the case. I wrote from my heart, never knowing there was a hidden lesson that I would learn along the way.

I’ve been told that I should write a book about cancer and all that I learned, but I’ll leave that up to specialists and research, as I’m no doctor and know little more than when I started. What I do know though is this. Life can change at any moment and it most certainly will. Seize life with all you’ve got.

Cain came into my life and shared the most amazing gift for a very special reason. I was charging along without a care in the world when cancer stepped into our lives. It slapped us across the face, but my courageous boy taught me the meaning of love, and how very important it is to live life fully with each and every moment you are given.

You can plan for tomorrow, but it might not come. Seize each moment, relish it, breathe it, live it, love it. Cain was my world, and with every breath, he moved forward, moment by moment, inspiring me to love and live like there’s no tomorrow. There’s no other way to be.

My heart is shattered, and I hope that someday I will live my life as you taught me. Love you buddy.
